Roe River Review (www.RoeRiverReview.com) is holding its 2026 Roe River Review Microfiction Prize.

We plan to submit the top five microfictions to Best Microfiction for their anthology of the best microfiction when they open for submissions from editors at the end of this year. Last year Best Microfiction accepted five nominations. If they accept fewer nomination, we will not be able to submit five. We are not associated with Best Microfiction.

To enter:

• 400 words maximum for each microfiction
• submit up to two pieces of microfiction in each entry (you may submit multiple entries by paying a reading fee for each entry, but no more than two pieces of microfiction in each entry)
• start the second entry on a new page
• title your submission with the title each piece(s) submitted. For one microfiction: "Title" and for two microfictions: "Title 1" and "Title 2"
• we accept simultaneous submissions. If your work is accepted for publication elsewhere, please send us a Submittable message
• remove all identifying information--do not include any identifying information in the document or submission title box or in the file name--including identifying information will result in disqualification and your reading fee will not be refunded (there are no refunds.)
• agree to the terms of the prize
• there are no refunds for any reason
• if your submission has been published elsewhere, even on a blog or on social media, provide the publication, date, and link. If your piece was previously published, it may prevent it from qualify for Best Microfiction.
• if you used Artificial Intelligence (AI), explain how it was used
• submissions are open internationally, to anyone writing in English. Translations must be of the author's work.
• there are NO refunds.
• if after submitting you notice an error in your submission (not a typo), send us a Submittable message. If you withdraw and resubmit you must pay a new fee.
• you agree that we may submit your work to Best Microfiction, and any prize, and include the required information for such submission, including but not limited to your name, email address, and title of your piece.

First Place:

• $100.00 for permitting us to publish your work by agreeing to the publication agreement (author retains copyright and right to reprint after we publish). Payment payable upon publication.

Second Place:

• $25.00 for permitting us to publish your work by agreeing to the publication agreement (author retains copyright and right to reprint after we publish). Payment payable upon publication.

Third Place:

• $10.00 for permitting us to publish your work by agreeing to the publication agreement (author retains copyright and right to reprint after we publish). Payment payable upon publication.

Fourth and Fifth Place:

• Publication for permitting us to publish your work by agreeing to the publication agreement (author retains copyright and right to reprint after we publish). Payment payable upon publication.

Any Honorable Mentions, Finalists, Semifinalists, Shortlisted, or Longlisted may receive:

• print publication by agreeing to the publication agreement (author retains copyright and right to reprint after we publish), or
• mention (name, or title of fiction, or bio).
